One of the most popular big ticket items at any electronics store this holiday season are high definition television sets (HDTV). As the UK continues the process of switching from analogue to digital broadcasting, more and more consumers are choosing to upgrade to high definition television. But choosing a good HDTV isn’t quite as straightforward as it seems. In fact, many consumers purchase these sets only to find that the picture is not nearly as crisp or as striking as advertised. There are several reasons for this, but more than anything else it has to do with the resolution. For instance, an average analogue television has about 480 lines of pixels, while most high definition sets have about twice that amount. However, when consumers shop for cheap sets they might get exactly what they’re paying for. Believe it or not, many cheap high definition sets have about the same number of pixels as the old analogue ones. That is why it is important to always read the LCD HDTV review before you go shopping. Another important piece of advice is to not be overwhelmed by the size of the screen. Many cheap high definition sets are available in impressive dimensions, but they often provide poor picture quality. Remember, you are buying a big set for increased resolution. If you wanted a big screen television with mediocre picture quality, you could always purchase a standard analogue set for far less. Lastly, you must choose between standard digital and HDTV. While it is true that most LCDs are high definition, a few are not. Therefore, if you want to watch programs in HD, you must locate the appropriate set.
